Chapel on the Dunes, Port Aransas, TX
The Little Chapel on the Hill was built in the 1930’s by Poet Laureate of Texas Aline Carter. On a narrow path just off 11th street, the chapel sits atop a 26-foot-high dune and boasts frescoes painted by artist John Cobb. The paintings depict various scenes from the Bible, and change from time to time. The chapel is still owned by the Carter family.
“Approaching Frank Carter about the hopeful restoration of the chapel was, essentially, done for my own redemption,” Cobb says. “I was given a true freedom both from Frank and even from the creator to express the joy of life.”
